How it works

A clear path through probate.

Five straightforward steps. Clear communication throughout.

  1. 01

    Initial Assessment

A calm, confidential conversation so we understand what has happened, what the estate involves and what support you need.

  2. 02

    Documents & Information

We tell you exactly what is needed, help you gather it and check the details with you before anything is prepared.

  3. 03

    Probate Application

The relevant application and supporting information are prepared carefully and reviewed by a specialist before submission.

  4. 04

    Estate Administration

If you would like wider help, we work through assets, liabilities, tax matters and beneficiary communication.

  5. 05

    Completion & Distribution

Estate accounts are prepared and, once liabilities are settled, the estate is distributed to the beneficiaries.

Probate & the DWP

Could the DWP be involved in the estate?

If the person who died was receiving benefits, the Department for Work and Pensions may need to establish whether there has been an overpayment or whether money is owed to the estate.

This can create additional administration for executors and may affect when the estate can be distributed.

Prudential Probate Services can help executors understand what information is required and manage the relevant estate administration carefully.

Common questions

Clear answers when you need them.

Do I always need probate?+

Not always. It depends on how assets were owned and the requirements of each bank or institution. We can review the estate and explain whether a grant is likely to be needed.

How much does a probate application cost?+

Probate applications start from £499 for eligible straightforward cases. Full estate administration is a tailored fixed fee following assessment, and more complex estates are quoted individually. Your final fee will depend on the circumstances and scope of work involved.

How long does probate take?+

Timescales vary with the estate, tax position, third-party responses and Probate Registry processing. We explain the likely stages and keep you updated rather than promising a fixed completion date.

What happens if the DWP contacts the estate?+

The DWP may ask for information about benefits paid before the person died. We can help organise the requested evidence, respond clearly and keep track of correspondence while the review is ongoing.
