A simple checklist before you write your will

A simple checklist before you write your will

Choose your executors carefully — two is ideal, and at least one should be younger than you.

Decide who looks after children under 18 (guardians) and whether trusts should hold their inheritance.

List the people and causes you want to provide for, including any specific gifts.

Consider your home, pensions and life insurance — many pass outside the will via nomination.

Plan for the unexpected: substitute beneficiaries if anyone predeceases you.

Talk to a will writer before signing. A 30-minute conversation prevents most disputes.
